Whether people will admit it or not, everyone has wondered whether they are really having as much sex as most other people they know. Some of us may even wonder if we're having way less sex than everyone else is having.

Though sex definitely isn't a competition on who has the most, it is nice to know where exactly your libido falls. In fact, it can tell you if you might be a bit unreasonable with your partner - or if you're a neighborhood Lothario.

How often people have sex, and how many partners the average person has had is a very common question in many peoples' minds. Perhaps that's why so many studies and surveys have been conducted on the topic? Either way, here's the truth about how often people do the deed, and how they enjoy doing it.

How often do people get laid, anyway?

The fact is that multiple studies have all come out about the average amount of sex people have - and the results all vary. The reasons for this is because the people who answer the surveys differ from group to group. That being said, we rounded up a bunch of surveys and studies that gave some pretty telling answers...

According to the Kinsey Institute, the average 18 to 29 year old will have sex about 112 times per year. Older folks slow down a little bit more, with people in their 30s getting it in around 86 times per year. People in their 40s get it around 70 times per year, on average. Basically, their numbers suggest that average is once or twice per week.

Sex toy manufacturer Adam and Eve did a study too. Their infographic said that the typical person has sex around 103 times per year. So, that rounds up to about two sexy sessions per week.

Meanwhile, party magazine The Rooster's study showed different data altogether. Their sex survey, which was conducted through their users, showed that a typical woman would have sex around 11 times per month, while a typical man would have sex around eight times per month. This makes it an average of two to three times a week.

Overall, the general consensus is that sex typically happens somewhere between once and twice per week for most people.

How many people don't get laid at all?

If you aren't having sex, don't worry. You're definitely not alone. The Rooster's survey answered this, but not too much in detail. Around 7.8 percent of their survey respondents don't have sex at all.

7.8 percent sounds pretty bad already, doesn't it? Well, it actually could be more common than you think. The Adam and Eve survey showed that around 17 percent of people rarely or never have sex. Celibacy is more common than you'd think.

The Kinsey study noted that around 13 percent of all married couples seldom or never have sex. So, that means that around one out of every ten couples has a "dead bedroom" issue. If you're in this situation, you're definitely not alone.

How often do people *really* hook up?

Despite the media outcry about hookup culture, it seems like most people who have hooked up haven't done it too often.

The Adam and Eve study showed that most men claim to have had 10 different 'casual one nighters," while women claimed that they've only had seven throughout their lives. Only 15 percent of the population has had more than 11 random hookups in their life. Most people, around 32 percent of the total population, have only had between two and five casual one night stands.

Meanwhile, over 70 percent of the Rooster's respondents noted that they do engage in casual hookups. However, they prefer relationships to casual sex.

Interestingly enough, the surveys both showed that people tend to engage in hookups as a way to hopefully get into a relationship with the person they's having sex with. So, there *is* hope if you're looking to have that happen.

How many partners do people really have?

The jury is still out on this one!

The Rooster reportedthat the average amount of sex partners ranged from 10 to 15. However, the other major survey we looked into said that 23 percent of the population had six to 10 partners. An additional 21 percent had 11 to 25 partners.

It's worth noting that this may be a stat that people have a hard time nailing down. After all, people tend to lie about how many people they've been with to keep up appearances.

The bottom line is...

If you're having sex once or twice per week, you're about average. If you're not having sex, you're not alone. It's just that simple when you think about it.
