Talking with the Stars: Marie Luv Part One

A few years ago, while strolling around looking for adult film stars to interview at Exxxotica, I came across one of the greatest performers of the genre.

Marie Luv was drifting around the floor of the kinky expo in a very unassuming manner. Far from the wild, lively, extremely hardcore chick that we've seen in numerous movies, she was seen holding a professional camera. She looked more like a media member than an award-winning porn star. That day, Luv was taking photos for Alexis Texas, who has made a name for herself in the business as well.

Retired from adult film, Luv was sort of stunned that I recognized her and could recall her beginnings in the business, which we took time to discuss in the first of this two-part interview. Here's what happened when Marie Luv debuted with rapper/porn star Jake Steed.

When I first addressed you, you said you have nothing out, you're chilling. What are you really doing right now at the moment?

I'm here. I'm photographer for the weekend.

Wow okay. You can't leave me without talking about your historic moments. The first time I saw you was in a Jake Steed movie.

Oh, God. Not the Jake Steed. Oh God. With the braids.

So I always wanted to ask you about that, because that was so different from the performances that you're known for. You usually go all out.

Well with the Jake Steed one, that was one of the ones that I wasn't doing porn for a career. I needed some money. So and then, yeah, the braids needed to be done. I didn't shave. My best friend was actually in the room with me, like three feet away, because we were in a small hotel room.

That's when I first started hearing myself on camera, and I didn't like my voice, so that's why I wasn't moaning. And when I seen that when I came back, not as Destiny but as Marie, I was like, "I'm taking out my braids. I'm gonna work on my voice and be fly with it. Wax, get that wolf pussy gone." That's how I know you're a real fan because not too many people know about that.

I remember seeing you and thinking, "That girl is beautiful but it looks like she don't wanna be there." Is that the first video you ever did?

Yeah, 'cause me and [Jake], I didn't know he did porn and I was dating him and he called my house and my homeboy looked at the caller ID and was like, "Who the fuck is calling you from Jake Steed Productions."

I'm like, "What the fuck is Jake Steed Productions?"

He was like, "The dude from The Chronic 2001."

I was like, "That's who I've been hanging out with? Like shut up." But I should've acted like I didn't know who he was because once I found out who he was, that's when he was like, "You should be in this movie then."

After doing that scene, did you jump straight in?

No that was like 2000 and then I stopped and came back four years later right before the whole outbreak thing. I came back, I didn't even know porn stars had agents. I got an agent. I got weave.

You came back with a vengeance.

Yeah, I was watching and my thing was, I wanted to be that girl, they would say, black girls don't like anal. Black girls don't get nasty. I was like, okay, so I would watch white girls on in porn, European girls specifically, because you know European girls go all the way in. They don't even come out here and shoot like they used to but that's who I was watching and I was like, "Okay, I'm about to have fun. I'm not about to be cute."
