It's my birthday but I’d rather avoid it at all costs. I don’t really need to stay late at work tonight.

I don't have a daily goal or target that I have to hit before going home, so there’s no way I could use work to get out of it.

I sat there clock-watching, as soon as it got to six o’clock, everybody started finishing their phone calls and making their way out. I grabbed my belongings before leaving. I knew tonight would probably not end well but I had no choice.

I expected people to be there waiting for me when I got home, but surprisingly it was quiet. I knew there wasn’t going to be a surprise party, so I just headed straight inside.

For most of my adult years, I’ve always managed to dodge out of my birthday celebrations by booking trips or suddenly needing to visit my parents. This year, I was so tied up with work that I completely forgot and Georgina jumped at the chance to make sure I celebrate it.

There was a note pinned to the refrigerator.

“GET READY, GET DRESSED AND GET BEAUTIFUL. I WILL BE BACK AT 7!

–GEORGINA”

Georgina is the type of person that is blunt, straight to the point and doesn’t give a crap. I stood there and figured I should probably go and get ready before she gets back. She’d kill me if she saw I was still in my work clothes.

After a quick shower, I start searching through my closet. How am I supposed to get dressed when I don’t even know where I am going? I’d love to just wear something comfy and relax on the sofa all night.

I decided on the safe option; jeans and a shirt. Add my black boots into the mix and I’d be dressed for any occasion. I take one last look in the mirror, give a nod of approval and then sit on the sofa waiting for Georgina to arrive home.

Finally, the door opened and in walked Georgina. Her face was full of disgust.

“You’re not ready yet? I left a note telling you to be ready for 7! Didn’t you see it?”

She ran over to me, grabbed my hand and started dragging me to her closet. She threw open her closet door and began rifling through her clothes, chucking things over her shoulder until she had found what she was looking for.

“Hurry up and put this on!”

I slid into the dress while she was throwing her shoes around, before finding the perfect pair and bringing them over to me. The heels were massive! How will I survive the night in these? I reluctantly put them on just to avoid confrontation with Georgina.

I stood in front of the mirror, looking myself up and down. In the reflection, I saw a pale, 4’ 10” woman with red hair and green eyes. I was slim, which helped, but I certainly didn’t look amazing right now.

Not compared to Georgina anyway.

“Don’t we look amazing?!” he pointed out.

I looked at her reflection; she was absolutely perfect with her long legs, blue eyes and brown hair. Her body was toned from going to the gym so it looked incredible. Any man would die to have a chance with Georgina, I’m hardly even noticed.

Georgina walked away; she was the best housemate I could ask for. She was bossy, noisy, knew what she wanted and usually always got it. She was studying to be a lawyer, which would certainly come in handy with the amount of trouble she gets in.

“Come on! The taxi is waiting for us!”

I felt more nervous than I had in years! Just as we got into the taxi, Georgina’s phone rang.

“What? Oh yeah – we’ll be there in 10 minutes!”

She cancelled the call and then turned to me,

“It was just Liam complaining about how late we are.”

Liam was our other housemate. He was cute in a brotherly way, with his mousy-blond hair and green eyes. Ever since we were young, he had loved computers and technology, so it came as a shock to everyone when they found out he was studying to be an electrician at university. Everyone always assumed he’d do something technology related.

The taxi finally pulled up to our destination. A nightclub! Seriously? I just feel like I want to run and hide; I don’t like nightclubs at all and would rather have stayed at home!

“I invited everyone! Cost me a lot to hire the whole club, but I wanted to make sure we knew everyone!”

Georgina seemed so pleased with herself; I’d feel terrible if I told her off for all of this fuss. As we walked in, I didn’t really see anyone I knew, it was mostly Georgina’s friends. I don’t really have many friends anyway, so I’m glad some people turned up.

We walked through the club and almost everyone greeted Georgina and hardly noticed me. The story of my life! We were both looking around and keeping our eye out for Liam.

“Look, there he is!”

I looked over and saw he was stood with someone I’ve never seen before. Liam usually brings all his friends round to the house. Before I could even say anything Georgina had grabbed my hand and was pulling me over to where Liam was stood.

I wondered if I had ever met him before. I’m guessing I haven’t, as I didn’t recognise him at all. Perhaps he was one of Liam’s friends from university. He was quite tall – compared to me, anyway – standing at around 5ft 9 inches. As I got closer something didn’t feel right, my hair was standing up and it wasn’t even cold.

Just as we reached them, he turned around to face me. He was even bigger close-up; you could see his muscles ripple beneath his shirt. He was so handsome; I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

I looked at Georgina and noticed she had the same look on her face as I did. She wanted him too. I knew instantly that I had no chance with him. Who would choose me over Georgina?

“Hey, you must be Alena? Happy birthday! I’m Jackson by the way – it’s so nice to meet you!”

His voice was so husky and strong. After he spoke to me, I realised I had been holding my breath and had to remind myself to breathe.

It suddenly dawned on me who he was. He was Liam’s brother! I’m sure Liam had mentioned that he’s in the Navy or something.

“Thank you, Jackson. It’s nice to finally put a face to the name. Liam has mentioned you quite a lot!” I replied.

The night dragged. I hate dancing and socialising, so I just sat at a table on my own. Every so often, somebody would come over and wish me happy birthday before walking back off. I didn’t really mind, I don’t like being surrounded by people.

Georgina was having fun with Jackson. He looked so worn out from being constantly dragged back to the dance floor. I couldn’t help but smile, typical Georgina to have men queuing up for her.

Liam stood in front of my field of vision and held out his hand, “Come and dance with me! It’s your birthday!”

I don’t know if he was trying to tease me, or if he was up to something else. He was acting very suspicious.

“I will pass – my feet are killing me in these heels! Plus, I don’t dance!”

Liam really didn’t seem happy that I refused. However, he quickly smiled and accepted my answer, then walked back to the dance floor.

Looking around, I noticed Georgina wasn’t with Jackson anymore; she was dancing with a few different men now. Where had he gone?

“Wow, she’s feisty isn’t she?”

The husky voice came from behind me; I turned around to see Jackson stood there smiling at me, with sweat dripping from his brow.

“Yep – that’s Georgina for you! She must have been checking out your dancing skills!”

“Dancing, really? Alena, if you think that was dancing, you’re sadly mistaken. That was me being pulled around and groped, not dancing.”

“You didn’t look like you were doing too bad, to be honest, I mean I have seen worse dancers than you before.”

“I was kind of hoping that I’d fall over or you know, pass out. I might have escaped quicker then. She’s not easy to get away from is she? So, Liam was telling me that you’re studying business and accounting?”

He was looking at me with such interest, like he was trying to figure me out. I felt weak under his intense gaze.

“Yes, that’s right. I want to start my own business, one day. If I qualify as an accountant, I can do my own books and cut costs.” I explained, wondering why he was asking me these questions.

We sat and spoke for a while longer, and then he looked at me.

“Isn’t this for your birthday? You don’t seem to be enjoying it very much. You’ve hardly moved from this table all night.”

“Well… that’s because this isn’t my idea of fun. I mean, look around! I think I only know four people here. They are all Georgina’s or Liam’s friends. I would rather be at home, watching TV and relaxing. I have work in the morning as well. So I can’t even have a drink!” I pointed out to him.

“If you’re really not enjoying yourself, and you have to be up early for work, then you should just go! I’m happy to escort you home, if you want?” He kindly offered. I practically screamed yes. He was right, it was far too late, I’m going to feel like a zombie tomorrow at work.

“Yes please, I just have to go and find Georgina and Liam and let them know that I’m leaving.”

I got up and started walking towards where Liam was dancing on the dance floor. Reaching him, he grabbed my wrist.

“Alena! You finally came over for a dance!”

He had this look in his eyes, like he was about to lean in for a kiss. I had to make a move before he did something he was going to regret!

“Sorry! I’m going home now. I have to be at work for10 am and I’m tired. Jackson has kindly offered to walk me home. I hope you and Georgina have fun!”

Liam looked angry. He looked past me and glared at Jackson. If looks could kill!

“Fine, but Georgina and I are going to be coming home late.”

He let go of my wrist and walked away. He looked upset and angry, but I was so tired, I didn’t bother chasing after him.

After how Liam had reacted, I was nervous that Georgina would be pissed off at me as well. Jackson and I walked towards the exit hoping we didn’t bump into her.

“Where are you two going?” A voice from behind us asked.

We turned around, it was Georgina and she looked angry too. I had never seen her look so angry before. I don’t know what they expected of me, I did soldier on through up until 3 am!

“Jackson is going to walk me home. I have to get up early for work in the morning.”

I quickly explained before turning on my heel and speeding towards the exit, leaving her no time to have a go at me.

We walked slowly back to my apartment, talking and laughing the whole way. It was almost 4 am by the time we got back! Although it was late and I needed sleep, I didn’t want him to go.

“So are you going to invite me in then?” He looked at me waiting for a response. I couldn’t say no after he walked me all the way home, it would be rude.

“Sure, come on in.”

I unlocked the door and held it open for him. He walked through and I followed behind him. He got comfortable on the sofa while I was making him a drink. Then I joined him on the sofa and we carried on talking, it felt natural, like we didn’t have to force the conversation.

It gradually got quiet and that feeling I got in the club returned. My hair stood on end and I couldn’t stop thinking about him kissing me! Before I did something silly, like pouncing on him, I quickly stood up and took our glasses into the kitchen. I leant against the sink, trying to catch my breath.

I heard footsteps and could almost feel his energy behind me. I slowly turned, and he was right there behind me, less than a foot away.

He moved forward and before I even had the chance to think, his lips were on mine and we were kissing! One of his arms wrapped around my body and lifted me onto the kitchen worktop.

He knocked the breath right out of me, every inch of my body was screaming for more. Slowly, his hands started pulling the straps down on my dress until it pooled around my waist.

I unbuttoned his shirt and trailed my fingers down his chest, feeling his warm skin. He started kissing down my neck gently and it felt amazing, I tilted my head back in pleasure. He moved further down my collar bone and then kissed around my bra.

It felt so amazing; I couldn’t tell him to stop even if I wanted to. I had finished unbuttoning his shirt, so I slid it down over his shoulders until it fell on the floor.

He pulled me closer, wrapping my legs around him. I started to unbutton his trousers while he unclipped my bra. I could feel his hard shaft in-between my legs, it made my legs quiver with excitement.

All of a sudden, the door swung open and in walked Liam and Georgina! I hid my face into Jackson’s neck, feeling it get hotter and hotter. You could cut the tension in the air with a knife! It felt like ages before somebody spoke.

“You do realise I need to actually cook there, right? Were you going to have sex right there?” Georgina asked with laughter in her voice.

I looked up and sure enough, she was smiling. Liam however, didn’t look happy at all. I slowly unwrapped my legs from around Jackson. He picked his shirt up while I put my dress back on.

My face was still burning; I couldn’t believe I was so stupid. I should have known they’d be coming back soon after me. Jackson lifted me from the worktop back onto the floor.

“Don’t look so embarrassed Alena! You should probably get a room next time, though,” she smirked.

“No need, I should be leaving. And Alena really needs to get some sleep before work.” Jackson turned back to me and kissed me, before walking out, Liam following closely behind.

“I want details! Every detail! I wish we would have set off fifteen minutes later, then we would have walked in on the really good part with you both naked!” Georgina quipped, looking like a giddy child on Christmas morning.

“I really don’t know what to say, Georgina. I’ve never felt like that with anybody before. One minute we were talking and laughing, next minute he had me up on the kitchen worktop and you came bursting through the door!” I tried to explain but I didn’t really know what happened myself.

“Ah well, it’s happened now. Nothing can be done about it, hopefully, Liam doesn’t give Jackson too much of a hard time. I think Liam wanted to get with you tonight!”

After hearing that, I felt even worse. I knew at the club he was about to kiss me, but I thought it was just a spur of the moment sort of thing, not a planned out action. I should never have left the club with Jackson. I was so stupid for not thinking about Liam and how he would feel.

“Look, I’m going to go to bed. Please apologise to Liam for me, I really don’t like him in that way. But I still didn’t mean to hurt him.” I felt bad about how the night ended.

“You have nothing to apologise for. It wasn’t like you were dating Liam, you never have, there was no history between you and him at all. So you shouldn’t feel the need to apologise.” Georgia said, looking confused. She was right, but it still didn’t stop me from feeling guilty.

“Can you please just explain that to him? I will see you tomorrow, goodnight.” I walked into my room and just flopped onto the bed. I couldn’t get Jackson off my mind; all I could think about was his lips all over my body.

I felt like I wanted to get up, find him and carry on from where we left off, but it wasn’t the best idea if he was with Liam. I somehow drifted off to sleep, my dirty thoughts turning into dreams.

The next day wasn’t any easier. I got up, showered and went to work. I really hoped I would see Liam before I left, to apologise and make sure he was okay with me. Unfortunately, he wasn’t awake, or he was just hiding from me.

I wanted to know if Jackson had said anything to him. I had to admit, I felt like a fool. Jackson had left so quickly, he didn’t even ask me for my number. Maybe he was just hoping for a one night stand?

I couldn’t stop replaying what happened, over and over in my head. All I wanted to know is if I would see him again. I knew deep down that I wouldn’t, but I prayed I would.

Work wasn’t great and it didn’t help me take my mind off Jackson at all. I knew I had to stop thinking about him, though it was clear I wouldn’t hear from him again. If anything, Liam probably told him to stay away, which wouldn’t surprise me.

As hard as it was, I tried to forget about what happened. There was no need to keep reliving it over and over. I focused on my work rather than Jackson. I couldn’t face going straight home after work, so I took a detour and went shopping instead.

Eventually, I had to head back home. Just as I thought, Georgina was sat there, waiting for gossip, but I was honestly just so tired and just wanted to forget about it.

“So how was work? And can we now discuss last night – in detail?” As soon as I opened the door she started firing questions at me.

“Work was boring as usual. I’m very tired, so I’m going to go back to bed for a while.”

“So, no talking about Jackson then or what happened last night?” She kept pushing for me to tell her more, when there wasn’t really anything else to say. “Jackson? Really, there’s nothing to talk about. He was clearly just looking for a one night stand, he never even asked for my number, I had a lucky escape, really.” I was starting to get frustrated, so I dodged out of the lounge and into my bedroom.

I was so worn out, I passed out straight away. I didn’t even have the chance to think about Jackson.

Suddenly, I felt lips on mine, kissing me passionately. His hands pulled me into him and he started ripping my clothes off. I opened my eyes and saw him Jackson above me.

He took my breath away. My madness had gone, all I wanted, all I needed was him again. He started kissing my neck, making me moan. He slowly moved down until he reached my breasts, sucking them into his mouth before tugging on them gently with his teeth.

It honestly felt amazing. I could stay here with him forever, with him seducing me. His hands slowly pulled down my trousers; my hands unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it off.

We lay there, naked and entwined; every inch of my body was aching for him. He started kissing me again, starting at my breasts and moving down, kissing gently down my naval.

I couldn’t help but moan in pleasure as he slowly teased me. He kept going until he reached my hip, my back arched and my body was begging for him to go further.

His tongue trailed from my hip to my core, until he settled in between my legs. He used his hands to spread my legs further apart. He started by just kissing and teasing, but the more I moaned, the faster he moved his tongue.

His tongue started to build up a rhythm, plunging deeper into me, making me moan louder. I was grabbing his hair, pushing him down, trying to get him even further inside of me as the pleasure rippled through my body.

I couldn’t even think straight, I just wanted him to keep going and never stop. His fingers started to slowly move around inside me, his tongue moved up and playfully licked my clit as he pushed his fingers deeper inside me until I was screaming and on the edge of climaxing.

“Alena!” I heard Georgina shouting me, but it felt far away.

“Alena! Wake the hell up!”

I shot up in bed, panting and releasing it was just a dream. Georgina was stood in my doorway looking worried.

“What now? I was trying to get some sleep?” I was pissed off, I wanted to know how the dream would end!

“I had a call – Liam has had a car accident and is in the hospital! I wasn’t given any details but a taxi is on its way, so get up and get dressed quickly!”

I jumped out of bed and got dressed as quick as I could. Adrenaline pumped through my veins, I didn’t have time to start worrying until I was sat in the taxi. I would have felt awful if something bad would have happened after what happened last night.

We were waiting at the door as the taxi pulled up; we sprinted towards it and jumped in. We both rode in silence until we got to the hospital. At the hospital, we were asked to sit in the waiting room as we’re not family.

We sat there for what felt like an eternity, when Jackson came rushing into the hospital. We looked at him and he just stormed passed, spoke to the nurse and was directed to go through a door.

I don’t blame him for not acknowledging us, his brother was in a serious car accident, I don’t blame him at all. I’d ignore everyone to get to my family quickly.

We sat there for a while longer, wondering if Liam was okay, before the door opened and Jackson appeared. He looked really angry. I instantly thought he might have been angry at me, for causing a drift between them last night.

“What a bloody idiot! Car accident? No, he ran over his own bloody foot. My mum is in tears because of that idiot, we all thought it was serious!” His voice boomed, I couldn’t help but smile and sigh with relief.

Out of nowhere, Georgina burst out laughing.

“What sort of idiot runs over his own foot?”

I turned to the door and Liam was stood there.

Jackson didn’t seem happy about how she found it funny “You should have said on the phone nothing serious; mum was in tears when I left her!” Jackson confronted Liam.

“Soz Bro, I thought saying car accident sounded cooler than I ran over my foot,” he did look sorry, I had to admit.

“Why didn’t you tell us it wasn’t serious? Mum is crying and panicking at home!” Jackson confronted Liam.

“Sorry bro, I thought saying ‘car accident’ sounded cooler than ‘I ran over my own foot.’” He looked sheepishly at the floor.

Georgina burst into fits of laughter again.

“If you find it funny, you can take him home, I can’t stand to look at him!” Jackson said angrily.

“Come on, hop along, let’s get you home.” She grabbed hold of Liam’s hand and turned to look at me.

I went to follow her, before Jackson grabbed my hand.

“I need to speak to Alena, so you can take him home yourself.”

Georgina didn’t argue, she just turned to leave. Liam didn’t look happy that I was staying to speak to Jackson, but I had to hear his explanation.

We went to a small pub and sat and talked. Jackson explained how he had planned to come back, but Liam had told him to stay away. He promised he would tell me.

Obviously, he didn’t though. I couldn’t help but wonder why Liam would be so cruel, making me think he left without wanting my number. I thought he just wanted a one night stand.

“Honestly – about an hour before he called saying he’d crashed. He text me saying he was going to pick you up from work, and then he called saying he’d had a car accident. I was beyond worried. I thought you might have been in the car with him. Then I walk in the hospital and see you’re alright.”

He looked pained and upset, like he had just found out he’d lost everything, and then got it back again.

“So, I was ready to go in and see him all messed up, and feel like it was my fault. Instead, I saw him sat on the bed, flirting with nurses and laughing. That’s why I got so angry.”

After he explained, I understood why he was so angry. We sat and spoke more, talked about my job and the businesses he owned. He told me he wasn’t going to go into any details, but I’ll know one day.

That made me so curious. I needed to know more! I considered asking Liam.

“Don’t ask Liam either – he doesn’t know. It isn’t often we see each other,” he said, as if he could read my mind.

“So, where exactly do you live?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“Not far from here, about a ten-minute drive. Why?” He answered carefully.

All I could think about was him kissing me again. That was all I wanted, I didn’t care what anyone else thought, or who it might hurt.

“I was just wondering if you live alone and get some privacy?”

If he lived alone, there would be no awkward interruptions halfway through our shenanigans. He looked at me like he was ready to kiss me again, my heart was pounding so fast. He stood up, grabbing his keys out of his pocket, then pulled me up and lead me outside. We walked slowly through a small alleyway; at the end was a car park.

I needed to get out of the alley – the tight space was just making me want to kiss him more. He must have sensed it because he grabbed my waist and pinned me against the wall, kissing me hard before letting go and walking briskly towards his car.

We drove in silence until we pulled up to a house surrounded by trees. It was stunning; absolutely breath-taking. I got out of the car and stared up in awe; it was unlike anything I’d ever seen before in person.
