Chapter 1: The Very Beginning

Cassandra Knight, what are you doing with your life! She thought to herself as she stepped into the shower. She turned the water on full blast and started to wash away the scent of Daniel, with whom she had just spent a quick half hour fumbling around with. Daniel was a playboy, and not even a very good one. That was the second time she had seen him and, as far as she was concerned, the last. They met at work. Daniel was one of the managers there and had recently started pursuing Cassie not so subtly. Standing in the shower, almost disgusted by his smell, Cassie wondered if she had actually ever liked him. No, she thought, it was the thrill of the whole thing that attracted her. Suggestive emails and illicit meetings after work had excited her but now that initial thrill had gone she had no interest. Maybe it would have been different if he'd been a decent lover... but he wasn't. The sad thing was, Daniel had been her first; she hadn't told him that as she wanted to seem more experienced—she was 23 after all! A late starter some might say, but Cassie had a theory, which was that she had always been attracted to older guys and only know that she was maturing, had they started to take an interest in her. Whatever the reasoning behind it, the short affair with Daniel had awoken a new side to Cassie, a confident and alluring side that she was keen to explore. After that second meeting, she cut ties with Daniel and as luck would have it, he moved jobs soon after which saved any awkward experiences at work.

It was a few months later that the Cassie's gym closed down, and she joined a new one in the nearest town. This gym was a lot bigger than any she had trained in before and there were a lot more people. A few weeks after joining, Cassie was in the gym on one of the torturous leg machines when someone attracted her attention. He was tall, powerful-looking and walked with such purpose and charisma she couldn't help but look at him. As he strode past he looked at her too, as their eyes met a strange sensation exploded in her stomach, it was like fire, butterflies and fireworks all at the same time. Wow, she thought, who is that? He was on her mind for the rest of the day and she couldn't wait to go back the following morning and see him again. Would she feel that explosion again? She did. And maybe even more so because she was wound up so tightly, excited to catch another glimpse. He was looking just as good. She kept sneaking glances at him—watching him train was so erotic somehow!

It wasn't until a few weeks later and many surreptitious gazes that they spoke to one another. Cassie was on the matted area using some of the free-weights to do squats when he came over and laid down on the mat a little to the side of her and started doing some crunches. Cassie could feel the heat rising in her cheeks and she felt like she was on stage with nothing on! But she wouldn't leave, she couldn't, this was closest they had ever been.

"Do you know what time it is, please?" His voice shocked her out of her reverie and she fumbled a little over her reply.

"Um, I can't see the clock from here I'm afraid."

He looked at her wrist as he said, "Oh sorry I thought that was a watch you had on."

Cassie looked down at her wrist. He was referring to the locker key band she had around her wrist. They briefly laughed about the mistake before both going back to their training. Cassie was reeling: He had spoken to her and my God what a lovely voice! Deep, strong and confident, it only increased her attraction to him. In typical Cassandra style she found herself replaying the short exchange over and over in her mind, surely he knew it wasn't a watch. Was he just looking to start up conversation? She really couldn't be sure, but one thing was certain: She would be back in the gym as soon as possible and putting herself in his vicinity just in case he was interested in more conversations.
