Life as a Newbie Sex Toy Reviewer

It's not as straight forward as you think!

To some, the idea of being a sex toy reviewer is extremely appealing. The notion of spending time alone with toy in hand giving yourself pleasure sounds like the perfect way to spend time unwinding.

Many people have the view that this is what sex toy reviewers do all day, masturbate. Yes, obviously this has to be done in order to write a review, but little is discussed about all of the other hard work that goes on behind the scenes before the publish button is pressed.

The first problem any adult blogger encounters is where to publish their work. Some of the free blogger platforms don't take well to adult themes and you can soon end up with content that has lots of effort being deleted without warning for no apparent reason. The overall look of the blog is something that needs to be considered too. There are thousands of pre-made themes for everything from fashion to sci-fi, but I have yet to see a pre-made theme for adult content. This means that a lot of time would have to be given to setting this up to suit the needs of the blog.

The next problem is gaining the attention of companies. As with most things, there are those who are good and others not so. A lot of adult companies will actively take time to chat to their customers (especially more independent/artisan ones) and a friendship can be formed leading to more possibilities. Other companies can often be a tougher nut to crack, wanting a reviewer to have a loyal readership and extensive reviews written before even considering working with you. To me, this type of thinking has a negative effect on all concerned. I understand that a company may want their reviews written by an established blogger with a few thousand readers per post but how is a newbie supposed to prove themselves without being given a chance? Luckily others have the same sort of opinion as myself and have devised a way to help newbies get opportunities that may not be available to them otherwise. Certain retailers and high profile adult bloggers are dishing out products to newbies to review which then gets published on their sites. This opens their reviews to a wider audience of both the consumers and the manufacturers.

Sometimes independent product retailers love to work with new reviewers. They tend to understand the struggles that would be encountered as they are probably encountering similar in gaining trust of their customers. Mutual exposure across the vast space of the internet helps both parties spread their names in the adult communities which in turn leads to further opportunities to progress.

It's not all doom and gloom when first starting out, there are lots of people who have been in the same situation. Everyone has to start somewhere and if help is needed, there is usually someone who has experienced similar if not the same thing. Most reviewers will help wherever they can, after all new blood in the community helps bring new ideas and improve the general state for all. A recent development has been the introduction of small blogger meets, which gives everyone a chance to network and meet the people whom you may have become friends with online.

These are just a couple of things that are overlooked when starting out in this type of writing. Many enter with rose tinted glasses thinking that it will be easy and quick but it's anything but that!
