Hottest Lumbersexual Men in Hollywood

Some of Hollywood’s hottest men are embracing the lumbersexual trend. Goodbye metrosexual, hello lumbersexual.

Lumbersexuals never grow tired of wood. Akin to Paul Bunyan and the hot Brawny guy, a perfectly trimmed lumbersexual can cause a flood in any locationmowing lawns and cutting down those delicate undergarments along the way. With the ferocity (and sex drive) of Thor in battle combined with a young poet’s absorption in Steinbeck novels, Lumbersexuals are the new guilty pleasure of women that can’t get enough of the bearded giant. Ingredients? Flannel. Craft beer lover. Artistically trimmed beard. Buff as fuck. Plaid. Impeccable fashion sense. And devouring eyes.

While the lumbersexual appreciates the updates of modern technology, he isn’t afraid to go out and get his hands dirty picking up eggs from the chicken coop. We’re not quite sure who brought this look into the mainstream, but we are thankful that Hollywood’s hotties have embraced it with open arms. Say bye-bye to the razor and hello to the perfect trim. Throw your “types” aside, because these men will carry you away into a cabin with a fire blazing. May the hunt begin.

Ryan Reynolds

While Ryan Reynolds has made his mark as a staple in showbiz, he has, most importantly for us, made a name for himself as a—you guessed it—lumbersexual. Reynolds got his start on the Canadian teen soap opera, Hillside in 1991. From there he starred in other shows, Blade: Trinity and Two Guys and a Girl. Reynolds really launched into his acting career in 2002 when he starred in National Lampoon's Van Wilder as the title character. His cameo in A Million Ways to Die in the West may be credited as Reynold's first on-camera appearance in all his lumbersexualness, and we're not complaining. In fact, we want to see more of this rugged look on his sweet face. Please.

Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa is the moon of our lives—or at least when he plays Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones, he is the moon of Daenerys Targaryen’s life. Jason Momoa made Game of Thrones’ first season a memorable one thanks to his brawny manhood and perfectly crafted beard. It’s no wonder that Daenerys, played by Emilia Clarke, couldn’t resist his lumbersexual charms (dating back to our magical middle ages, of course). Momoa is a barbaric lumbersexual, further supported by his role as the title character in Conan the Barbarian. He also kept his rugged looks in The Red Road, where he played Phillip Kopus, a Ramapough Mountain Indian. Jason Momoa even keeps his ruggedly good-looking lumbersexual looks as the superhero Aquaman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. All in all, Jason Momoa, we love you and your beard. Please keep it forever. Thank you.

Joe Manganiello

Alcide hands down stole the show in HBO’s hit True Blood. Forget Bill and Eric—those unshaven and somewhat effeminate vampires with pasty white skin. Alcide, played by the salivating-inducing Joe Manganiello, entered mid-season and stole everyone’s hearts and libidos. He provided an interesting—and some say lumbersexual—alternative and hot piece of werewolf meat to the somewhat lacking options of the show previously. That beard. Those arms. That flannel. That sweetness in his eyes. He is a beast and a caretaker at the same time; and we simply can’t get enough of him.

Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam might just be the king of the lumbersexuals. His trimmed beard seems to be a staple to his image, especially since his days as a member of a motorcycle gang. It is rumored that Charlie Hunnam got spotted by a talent scout while he was drunk in a shoe shop and that is how he got cast for the British TV series Byker Grove for three episodes. Following that, he appeared in several other shows before his first titular role in the 2002 film Nicholas Nickleby. He went on to work on several other films before stealing our hearts in 2008 as badass Jackson "Jax" Teller on the popular series Sons of Anarchy. The show had its final season in 2014, and since, we have been waiting to see lumbersexual Charlie Hunnam in his next roles in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur and The Lost City of Z.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto is most well known for his success with the band 30 Seconds to Mars and his ultra hipster persona. But before Jared Leto was the definition of a lumbersexual male with a manbun (hello top knot!), he starred as Jordan Catalano in the 1990s TV series My So-Called Life. Leto made his film debut in How to Make an American Quilt, as well as making appearances in Prefontaine, Fight Club, American Psycho, and Requiem for a Dream, in which he earned critical acclaim for his performance as a heroin addict. 30 Seconds to Mars was formed in 1998 and their debut self titled album had limited success upon its release in 2002. In 2005, the band achieved worldwide fame for its second album, A Beautiful Lie. This jack of all trades ,with his perfectly trimmed beard, is also playing the Joker in the 2016 film Suicide Squad.

Chris Pine

In most of his films, Chris Pine is clean shaven. But in his off-camera life, we love his lumbersexual look. His scruff is just enough without being too much, and coupled with his mysterious look, we just can't get enough. Chris Pine made his big screen debut alongside Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. He then went on to star in Just My Luck, Horrible Bosses 2, and Into the Woods. He may be most well known for his role as James T. Kirk in the 2009 Star Trek film. Pine has won awards like Male Star of the Year, Best Actor in a Science Fiction Movie or TV Show, and most recently, one of the hottest lumbersexual celebrities.

Liam Hemsworth

Move over Chris Hemsworth! Your brother is killing the lumbersexual game! Liam Hemsworth was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1990. In 2007, Hemsworth began filming episodes for shows like Neighbours and The Elephant Princess. He made his big screen debut in The Last Song, alongside Miley Cyrus in 2010. Hemsworth really got his name out there when he accepted the role of Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games. He stars with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in the book-turned-movie series. Aside from being Cyrus's ex and Chris's little brother, we all recognize (and drool over) Liam Hemsworth for his perfect execution of the lumbersexual look.

Tom Hardy

London native Tom Hardy stole our hearts after he made his big screen debut in Black Hawk Down in 2001. He starred in many roles after that, none of which really flung him into fame, except my personal favorite, Wuthering Heights (the scene where he is next to the tree and screaming his heart out is heartbreaking). In 2011, Warrior was released and it is for this role that he gained critical acclaim. In the final film of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, Hardy played the supervillian Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. In 2015, he played the title character, Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, a role that belonged to Mel Gibson in the past. Recently, Tom Hardy has been sporting a full beard, as opposed to his previously clean shaven face. And ladies are swooning over it. The rugged look matched with his rough personality makes him a poster boy for the lumbersexual look.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal got his start in the movie business in the 1991 comedy City Slickers. He then went on to star in October Sky and Brokeback Mountain. This lumbersexual went from a baby face dooms-day prophet in Donnie Darko to recent roles in Everest and Southpaw. We've been fanning ourselves over his bearded look since we saw photos from the Venice Film Festival where he was promoting Everest. As lumbersexual lovers, we know how to appreciate a full, nicely trimmed beard, and Jake Gyllenhaal is showing men how it's done.

Chris Evans

Captain America isn't lumbersexual, but thankfully, real life Chris Evans is. The Boston native got his start in Not Another Teen Movie which led to roles in The Perfect Score and Cellular. He played the superhero the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and again in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In 2011 he took the big screen in one of his most well known roles yet, in Captain America: The First Avenger as the title character, who he will be portraying in future films, as well. In The Iceman, Evans wore a wig and grew out a beard for his role. He also sported a full beard in Snowpiercer, which is available to watch on Netflix. We're not sure if Evans began his lumbersexual look specifically for a movie role or not, but sure are glad he did.

Ryan Gosling

Lumbersexual Ryan Gosling began his acting career on the Mickey Mouse Club. The baby face stole everyone's hearts and nabbed him roles in Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps. However, Gosling is most well known for his role as Noah Calhoun in The Notebook. After his heart is broken in the film, we get the first glimpse of Gosling with a lumbersexual look, as he sports a full beard and rebuilds a house. We got a glimpse of him again in 2015 when he rocked shaggy hair and a rugged beard for the film The Nice Guys. Gosling pulls off the lumbersexual look with such ease whether he is growing it out for a role or walking the red carpet.

James Franco

Photo via Rolling Stone

Funny guy James Franco's first prominent acting role was on the TV show Freaks and Geeks at an age where he couldn't even grow facial hair. But now, we salute James Franco for his for his ever-present facial hair. Since his role as the high school oddball, Franco has graced the big screen in comedies such as Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and The Interview. It's not always fun and games for one of our favorite lumbersexuals, though. He has also had more serious roles in films, like Milk and 127 Hours. Everyone loves a guy who can make them laugh, but a lumbersexual who can make us laugh brings it to a whole new level.
