Danish women are the most open to having sex on a first date. A study recently published by the Victoria Milan website, which specializes in "illegal" encounters for people who are married or in a relationship, says it.

The international study used a sample of 5,650 women of different nationalities. It tries to find answers to questions such as how long they need to sleep with their new partner, how they make the decision, and where they take the lover in this first meeting.

The decision does not depend on topics such as beauty, whether you have had an extra drink, or if it has been a long time since the last meeting.

Victoria Milan's study is the result of the analysis of data collected through an online survey that ensured the complete privacy of the participants. Let's see what's happening in the rest of the world.

France, Denmark, and Norway are the three countries in which they are least reluctant to end the first night in the arms of their new lover.

57 percent of French women admit that they prefer the meeting to take place at home, while Danish (57 percent) and Norwegians (68 percent) prefer the meeting to end in a hotel room.

The women from these three countries state that they do not go to the date with the expectation of having sexual relations, and that the final decision is made throughout the evening, depending on how it has been developed.

This resolution does not seem to depend on topics such as the beauty of the other one, if they drink too much, or if it had been a long time since the last date they had.

Spanish women are in the average of the countries studied, and more than in the first date, the decision tends to be delayed to the second one.

According to Sigurd Vedal, CEO of Victoria Milan: "Sex is a crucial part of any relationship, especially when it comes to passionate love.

The confidence in knowing what you want and how you will get it is extremely appealing, and I doubt that French, Danish, and Norwegian women's first date advancements will end up being rejected.

On the opposite side of the countries in this study are Polish women. Only 12 percent admit that they are willing to lie down on the first date.

Things change when it comes to subsequent meetings, 41 percent of Polish women are more available to such a possibility if there is a second chance.

What about Spain? Spanish women are in the average of the countries studied, and more than in the first date, the decision tends to be delayed until the second one.

According to other research carried out by the website, among the Spanish women's fantasies when it comes to embarking on a new adventure, the first possibility is to go out with co-workers, and even their boss.

Below we present the ranking of the 10 countries studied, using as a variable, in this case, the average number of dates that women consider appropriate before ending up in bed with their new crush:

  1. Denmark: 1.58
  2. Finland: 1.68
  3. France: 1.72
  4. Norway 1.77
  5. Sweden 1.99
  6. Spain 2.07
  7. Netherlands 2.24
  8. United States 2.32
  9. Belgium: 2.69
  10. Poland 2.93

Why have sex on the first date?

First encounters are usually less ideal than in movies, and clumsiness and nerves are the order of the day.

Despite the fact that this behavior has changed a lot in recent decades, according to a survey carried out by Cosmopolitan, 83 percent of women still feel that a man can underestimate them if they sleep with him as soon as they get to know each other. The curious thing is that according to the same survey, 67 percent of men say precisely the opposite.

Jeff Wilser, co-author of the book It's Okay to Sleep With Him on the First Date tries to dispel this myth: "In all the history of mankind no man has said: 'It's wonderful, it's intelligent and it's sexy. There's only one problem: we go to bed on the first date.'"

The decision about when to have sex is arbitrary. What counts is whether the couple likes each other, and whether they are attracted to each other.

According to Maïa Mazaurette, columnist for the French version of GQ magazine, delaying the sexual encounter too long can even be counterproductive for the fledgling couple: "The British and the Americans are cautious about when to put the relationship to bed, and this also makes them more sanctimonious when the time comes.

When sexual tension exists, it can be turned against if not consumed, and lead lovers to rationalize and obsessively analyze why it doesn't happen.

Sex, finally, can be a good indicator of the connection that really exists.

Justin Lehmiller, a social psychologist and expert in relationships and sexuality says: "For some people it's essential to establish sexual compatibility soon, and going to bed on the first date can be an optimal movement.

At the end of the night the key factor is not the sex itself, but the interest in the other person.

For Philip N. Cohen, professor of sociology at the University of Maryland: "The decision about when to lie down is arbitrary and changes nothing. All that counts is whether the couple likes each other and whether they are attracted to each other."
