Being Young and Out of Love: Part 4

This was probably a month after Harley Davidson and after a couple less eventful dates that led to nothing but were also just not interesting enough to share. At this point, I had given up on dating apps. Two days later, I was working at this wedding as a favour to my sister's friend, who was getting married. I agreed to it mainly because I got some extra cash, which is always preferable, and I got to work with my best friend. Plus once we were finished cooking and handing out all the food, we were allowed to join the party. So around 1 AM we had some catching up to do. We started drinking from the keg and smoked some pot and about an hour or so later my light weight ass was good and drunk. I decided that I wanted to go and flirt with this guy that I had been somewhat flirting with the whole night, so I peeled away from my friend, leaving him with his sister. I never did find him that night... Because I kind of got distracted. You see, before I started my search, I decided I wanted to fill up my cup and made my way to the keg. That was when I saw Hershey (this nickname will be explained at a later date) pouring the worst cup of beer ever! I swear, his cup was ninety percent foam and because of who I am as a person, I couldn't help but poke fun at the poor pour. He insisted that it wasn't actually him but the keg, so I made him prove it by pouring me a drink. Turns out the keg's pump was fucked.

We continued to talk for about fifteen minutes before he asked if I wanted to go onto the roof. The roof of this house was completely flat and considering we were in a smaller town, the light pollution was minimal and the cloudless night made the roof the perfect place to stargaze from. I agreed, knowing that he didn't exactly intend on just stargazing. We climbed up onto the roof and wandered to the far end, furthest from the one place you could climb up to find as much privacy as you could on a flat rooftop.

I'm not entirely sure of the impression that I have made on the people who have been reading these posts but I will say that this is very uncommon behaviour for me. I'm not the type of person who goes out and drinks and then magically finds a guy to go home with. This is why I was on dating apps in the first place. Yet, there I was, sitting on a roof knowing full well that the intentions of the guy I was with were far more than just discussing our inevitable deaths and how little of a mark we've left on the world (which, of course, was the main topic of the small talk I made). We chatted for sometime before various people joined us on the roof. The first being my friend that I had originally abandoned to the strangers of the party below. Now, something you should know about my best friend is that he is one of the most socially awkward people I know... So socially awkward that he felt more comfortable third wheeling with Hershey and I than he did mingling at a party where he only knew a few people.

The presence of my friend didn't stop Hershey though, in fact, I think his presence actually escalated things. Before he showed up, Hershey and I had distance between us and were chatting about very non-flirty things. When my bestie popped up, Hershey snuck his arm around me, pulling me into him and snuck a hand under my dress. (Thankfully I was also wearing a very large sweater that kept these advances hidden from my friend.) Suddenly, my friend's presence and the knowledge that he probably wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon became a form of the game of seeing what we could do without getting caught. Looking back on it all... Thank god we didn't get caught!

As I finished my drink, Hershey stated the need to take a leak and I requested he refill my beer, preferably with more liquid than foam and he obliged. My friend and I took our time to chat before he returned and my friend decided that he too had to go to the washroom. Now, most people might think this was a smooth way of my friend leaving us be, however, I knew the truth, which happened to be that he would be coming back. Although, that didn't stop me from enjoying the few moments Hershey and I had alone which we used to partake in a very heated make-out session. Lying on my back on this roof, I enjoyed the hastened feel of it all, since I knew we had a time limit. Which luckily led to me ending things and sitting back up just in time as my friend climbed back onto the roof followed by none other than my sister. Needless to say, I just saved his ass.

Ultimately, when the night was coming to a close, we got kicked off the roof by two people who were so drunk they thought it was a good idea to sleep up there... Not thinking about how sunrise was at 5:24 AM and that a roof wasn't really cushioned. We did sit around for a while after with a few of Hershey's friends inside the house. One of them who was really quite frustrated with the fact that I chose (with a little coaxing from Hershey) to sit on Hershey's lap rather than stand. This friend also decided to continually refer to me as Shade as I was being rather sassy toward him. It was all a little weird and once again, Hershey and I were back to the game of seeing what we could get away with, although now there were far more people in a lit room. (Still didn't get caught though... Thank god.) Around 3:30 AM their ride showed up and Hershey's friends and my own vacated the house to go outside as I drunkingly punched my cell phone number into Hershey's phone, which I got to say was pretty impressive with the state I was in.

Then we stood to leave, saying our goodbyes, and taking the moment of privacy to quickly make-out before we pulled back and walked out two separate doors as though we were trying to make it seem like the additional five minutes we spent inside hadn't been with our lips locked.

Then he was gone.

Until about fifteen minutes later when he texted me. The wildest thing of it all was the fact that he was moving a twenty minute bus ride from my house that weekend.

Which is to say this story continues.
