"You've met someone, haven't you?" Elle Dubois, her closest friend in town grilled her from the next isle over in Phil's Pharmacy, and Lena immediately regretted being out in public with her. She had a nasty habit of seeing right through people, and Lena wasn't sure she was ready to tell everyone about Ethan. It was new, and exciting, she didn't want to jinx it. She didn't want it to be tainted by expectations or pressure. She wanted to do it right this time.

"Can we talk about this elsewhere?" Lena insisted as they met up at the end of their isles and placed their final items into their baskets. She couldn't help but peek into her friend's basket as she stood next to her in line and when she noticed the pregnancy test beaming at her like a halo, Lena smiled. She took the time to recall if Elle had showed any signs of being pregnant in the last few weeks and as she pulled the memory of her friend disappearing from the town's annual pie festival, even though her favorite dessert was cherry pie, she remembered Elle looking a bit sick as they browsed through the endless pie booths.

"I had no idea you wanted to be a mother." Lena mentioned, as they walked out of the pharmacy and started walking towards Hazel's coffee shop for their usual mid-day caffeine pick-me-up.

"Lily changed my mind. I want one just like her. Beautiful and caring, tough and kind. All the things I never got to be at her age." Elle answered honestly, and while Lena was definitely surprised at her statement, she wasn't all that shocked Elle had adjusted her perspective given all she went through in Miami. She was still young, and she had time to be better than what she was raised to be.

"If its any consolation, that baby is going to have one hell of a childhood with you and Carter as its parents." Lena teased, causing Elle to grin with pride.

"You think so? He's a wreck about it, claims he'd be a terrible Dad given the one he had wasn't so....friendly. I've assured him I won't let that happen." she replied confidently. Lena believed her. If anyone could tame a beast, it was Elle Dubois.

"What do you think? Too flashy? Too boring?" Lena stressed as she held out two dresses for her son to pick out. She had a dinner date with Ethan tonight after their group meeting and she was already late. Lena hadn't introduced Ethan to Tony just yet. Mostly due to her fear of Tony not approving. It would only complicate things further and she just wanted to be on good terms with him again. She missed his smile and she'd do anything to get it back.

"I like the red one. Can I go now?" Tony claimed in exasperation. Lena laughed as she placed the dresses neatly on top of her bed and continued to walk over to her son, messing up his hair in the process before covering his face with kisses.

"Moooooooooooom!" he whined, but Lena only hugged him tighter, holding him close to her chest.

"You know I love you, right? More than anything else in the world." she stated, as she fixed her son's hair and tucked it back into the same style she brushed it in earlier that evening.

"Yeah. I know. Can I go now please?" he continued to beg, and Lena pouted at him, using the same trick he used to get his way. Tony rolled his eyes and hugged her tight, burying his head against her neck. "I'm glad Daddy's gone." he confessed after a moment. Lena froze from the shock of her son's words, but stayed quiet as she waited for him to continue. "Sergio's Dad is mean, like Daddy was. He makes his Mom cry too. I'm glad he's gone. I'm glad he doesn't make you cry anymore." he finished, as he lifted his head to look at her expression. She held back her tears so she wouldn't alarm him and kissed his temple.

"How long have you known about your Dad?" Lena asked him, recalling he was barely five when he saw Emmett slap her across the face during that fateful morning. He'd only started crying because he'd seen the tears spill out of her own eyes and he'd heard the screams coming out of his own father as she defended herself.

"I'm a big boy. I notice things. Like Aunt Elle does. She says I'm a natural." Tony informed her with a smile and it completely melted her heart.

"You know your Daddy tried his best right?" she covered for her dead husband one last time, but their son, the only good thing that had come out of their union, knew better. She could see it in his eyes as he processed her words.

"No. He didn't." he countered sadly, placing a tap kiss on her cheek before he ran out of her bedroom.

"I know we've all been through terrible things. Some of it has stayed behind, left an impression we think we couldn't possibly erase. But the truth is, we shouldn't. They serve as a reminder that we are more fierce than what they wanted us to believe. So I want you to do something for me tonight. I want you to take that imaginary frying pan, and kill your pain dead. It may take you a couple of swings, but I want you to know you'll feel better. Better and stronger than you ever were before. Thank you." Lena finished her speech at the podium and smiled at the audience clapping for her. She waited until their cheering simmered down to step down from the podium, but she saw one hand rise up in the midst of the crowd. And she knew who it was before he even stood up from his chair.

"Yes, Mr. Cavalier?"

"Have you forgiven yourself?" Ethan asked, sending her a piercing look as he waited for her to respond.

"I'm never letting you go, Lena. I don't care how many guys you fuck after me. I'm never letting you go." Emmett spread his venom once again for the first time in weeks, but this time, she managed not to let it reach her heart.

"I'm getting there."

"I can't wait for you to taste this. It's my specialty." Ethan mentioned as he dipped his wooden spatula into the boiling pot of marinara sauce. He wanted to take their dinner date to his place for once and Lena had been curious to see how the bachelor lived. His tidy condo in his gated community was certainly impressive. But she knew a doctor when she saw one. Most of them were anal about their surroundings and Ethan seemed to be one of them. Not a single thing seemed to be out of place.

He hadn't disclosed what kind of profession he was in during group therapy and she figured it was the perfect time to get him to talk about it.

"Wow. This is really good." Lena answered, as the different spices in the marinara sauce exploded against her taste buds and gave her a delightful shiver down her spine. "When did you find the time to cook like this?"

"You sound surprised." Ethan teased, as she washed her hands in the sink and dried them with a piece of paper towel.

"Well, I figured you wouldn't have the time being a doctor and all." Lena responded and smiled as his arms wrapped themselves around her from behind. His soft chuckle made her skin tingle and her clit ache for his full lips. If things went as planned tonight, she would be sitting on that handsome face by the time their date ended. They'd been adding more fuel to their sexual tension since they started dating two months ago, by teasing each other relentlessly, hyping up the anticipation for what she could only assume would be some of the best sex of her life.

"How'd you know?" he asked huskily into her ear, and she couldn't help but make him groan as she grinded her backside onto his growing erection.

"I used to be a nurse, remember?" she said and melted into his broad chest as he placed her hands onto the counter tops and used his soft lips to start a trail of kisses against her exposed neck. She almost lost it when she felt his fingertips dip in between her wet folds, rubbing lightly at her throbbing clit. Lena thrusted her pelvis against his hand, and felt herself about to come when he slipped his fingers out of her.

"Well then, I could use some help bringing this pasta back to life. Come on." Ethan teased, patting her butt as he pulled away from her. Lena frowned with disappointment and Ethan couldn't hold back his laughter once she turned to face him.

"I hate you." she falsely claimed, as she helped him with the rest of their dinner menu. She knew it was quite the opposite actually. And that was what had been keeping her up at night recently.

Lena had fallen for a bad man before. She could only imagine it was much more terrifying to fall for a good one.

"What kind of doctor are you anyway?" Lena asked him when they finally finished their meal an hour later.

"The furry kind." Ethan answered with a widened smile as he picked up their dirty dishes and began to discard of their remains in the garbage disposal.

"A veterinarian huh? I don't see any signs of animal life in here."

"That's because I don't have the time to take care of one. Otherwise, this place would be filled with dogs and cats."

"I had a cat once. Snuck it into my room one night and kept it for a while before my mother got rid of it one day while I was in school. Woman couldn't stand anyone else's happiness. She just had to suck it right out of you." Lena replied, and shook away the dull hatred she still held for her mother after all these years.

"Is she doing any better?" Ethan asked as he returned with dessert. Her favorite gourmet chocolate pudding. It made her mouth water as she stared at it while he placed the bowl and one spoon in the middle of the table.

"None of the treatments seem to be helping. She'll be going any day now the way things are looking." she answered and reached for the spoon so she could taste some of the dessert calling her name, but Ethan always had an agenda. And tonight, it seemed his agenda consisted of teasing her to the point of madness, as he caught her hand in his and placed a soft kiss onto the back of it.

"Have you apologized to her yet?" Ethan asked, and she turned to face him as his question jump started her anger.

"Apologize? For what? For living despite her not wanting me to?" she fired back hastily. He read her expression before he turned her chair around and took a hold of her face.

"Was it that long ago you resented your own son for reminding you of the most painful moments of your life?" he mentioned, and waited for her to respond. She couldn't argue with his words when they held nothing but the solid truth. It hadn't been her fault her father had come home from his tours to battle his own inner demons and had left her mother in limbo until the day he died. She'd been miserable the entire time, pining over a man who couldn't give her the love and attention she often begged for.

"That's what I thought. Now, can I have my dessert please? I've been waiting a long time for it." Ethan added, his eyes glistening with lechery as he stood up and placed her on top of the dining room table, parting her legs for him as he hiked up her dress to her hips. He leaned into her, cradling her face as he gave her slow burning kiss, igniting a passionate fire in her loins. She moaned when he pulled away from her lips and held her gaze as he slipped her red lace panties down her legs.

"I'm keeping these." he stated firmly, not bothering to wait for her protest as he placed her underwear in the back pocket of his jeans and continued to seduce her with his lips while he unzipped her dress and left her to all her naked beauty. "For the life of me, I can't imagine why any man would dare to bruise perfection." he murmured against her skin as he kissed every inch of it, titillating her senses, filling her thoughts with nothing but a fog of sultry temptation.

He took another break from her skin and took the spoon once again, dipping into the texture of the chocolate pudding. Taking a spoonful of the dessert, he fed her some, and smiled with satisfaction as she moaned at the taste. It was perfectly cold and perfectly filled with chocolate goodness, just how she enjoyed it.

"I think I might have to steal your chocolate pudding recipe." she teased as he licked the remainder of the pudding from the corners of her mouth, and pinned her lips with another kiss.

"I'm not sure I'll be able to wait to hear you come for me tonight, Lena." he whispered into her ear, nibbling onto her hardened nipples, sucking on them to the point of making her walls contract with impatience.

"I'm ordering you not to wait any longer, Mr. Cavalier." she countered as she reached down into her soaking wet walls, and rubbed them enough to coat them with her juices. He bit his lower lip before she lifted her fingers up to his lips and gave him a taste of what he'd been regretfully stalling for.

"Fuck waiting." he said bluntly before she squealed with excitement and he sat back onto his chair, parking himself in between her legs as he dipped his tongue inside of her. Lena almost screamed from the pleasure his warm tongue gave her as he flicked at her nub, causing her back to arch and her legs to spread further. He gripped her thick thighs tightly as he sucked on her clit, swirling his tongue to smooth over the painful jolt of pleasure swimming through her. Her fingers weaved through his styled short hair and tugged when she felt herself about to come. He didn't pull away this time, he merely basked in her river of juices as she spilled against his lips and he drank from her.

Ethan was about to pull his hard length out of his jeans when the sound of her cell phone ringing caught her attention.

"Leave it. I'll call back later." Lena said as she pulled him back in between her legs and kissed away any drop of her come he had left on his mouth.

"It could be an emergency." he mentioned in between tongue kisses and while Lena hated the thought of not being able to feel him inside of her, she managed to let him help her off the table and back into her dress before she went to her purse to retrieve her phone. She noticed the missed call had come from her brother, who was babysitting Tony for her tonight and called him back immediately.

"Leo? What's going on? Is Tony okay?" Lena asked in maternal panic, as Ethan stood behind her, zipping up her dress, and placing her feet back into her heels.

"He's fine. Mom's not doing so good. The doctor says she wont make it passed tonight. I'll meet you at the hospital." he informed her quickly and while they finished up their phone call, Ethan handed her her purse and grabbed his keys. Her heart began to pound furiously, as the fear of losing someone she cared about started to settle into her stomach again.

Question was, did she have the strength not to let it kill her for good this time?
